Centre for Earth Sciences
Indian Institute of Science
The Centre for Earth Science (CEaS) aims to offer world-class education and a research platform to conduct ground-breaking research in the field of Earth science. We envisage creating a multidisciplinary academic environment which promotes and appreciates both fundamental and applied research in different aspects of Earth science. Our goal is to provide students with hands-on training in both classical and modern approaches including geological field-work, state-of-the-earth geochemical, isotopic and microscopy techniques, remote sensing and computational techniques to better understand the interactions between the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and the deep earth as well as address environmental and socio-economic issues. Equipped with state-of-the-art analytical facilities and wide-ranging expertise, researchers at Centre for Earth Science are working on diverse topics from the origin and evolution of the Solar System to climate change, from surface water chemistry to deep Earth processes in the mantle and core, from modern-day tectonics to reconstruction of paleo-continents using petrology and geochronology, from ocean-atmosphere interactions to paleo-climate reconstruction, and from biogeochemical processes to earthquake and tsunami geology.
