The Centre for Earth Sciences, established in 2007, aims to offer world-class education and a research platform to conduct ground-breaking research in the field of Earth science. We offer a multidisciplinary academic environment which promotes and appreciates both fundamental and applied research in different aspects of Earth science.
Our goal is to provide students with hands-on training in both classical and modern approaches including geological field-work, state-of-the-art geochemical, isotopic and microscopy techniques, remote sensing and computational techniques to better understand the interactions between the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and the deep Earth as well as address environmental and socio-economic challenges.
Equipped with state-of-the-art analytical facilities and wide-ranging expertise, researchers at the Centre for Earth Science are working on diverse topics from carbon capture to climate change, from surface water chemistry to deep Earth processes in the mantle and core, from modern-day tectonics to reconstruction of paleo-continents using petrology and geochronology, from ocean-atmosphere interactions to paleo-climate reconstruction, and from biogeochemical processes to earthquake seismology.
