Earth science for a dynamic planet

Established in 2007, the Centre for Earth Sciences at IISc brings together education, research, and hands-on training across various disciplines of Earth science. Our work spans geological field studies, geochemical and isotopic analysis, microscopy, remote sensing, and computational approaches to understand the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and deep Earth. With state-of-the-art analytical facilities and wide-ranging expertise, CEaS researchers study topics from climate change, carbon capture, and water chemistry to tectonics, mantle and core processes, paleoclimate, biogeochemistry, and earthquake seismology.

The Centre’s research interests encompass a range of broad themes, including the dynamics and tomographic imaging of the Earth’s interior, paleoclimate reconstruction, surface processes and mass transport, petrology, groundwater pollution, and anthropogenic impacts on the environment. Our research is grounded in interdisciplinary approaches that bridge the gap between basic and applied earth sciences.
