Broad research themes of interest to the Centre include dynamics of the earth’s interior, earthquake source physics, paleoclimate reconstruction, surface processes and mass transport, petrology, groundwater pollution, and anthropogenic effects on the quality of the environment.

The Centre focuses on interdisciplinary research in basic and applied earth sciences.


The eligibility for our academic programs is as follows.

  • Ph.D. Master’s degree in science/ engineering/ technology with a first class. Meritorious candidates with a bachelor’s degree in any branch of engineering can be considered for direct admission.
  • M.Tech. (Earth Sciences) Bachelor’s degree in the field of Engineering or Technology or Master’s degree in any branch of Science. The candidates need to qualify in CSIR-UGC National Entrance Test for JRF or GATE. After initial screening based on scores in the above exams, selected candidates will be invited for an interview.
