Research

The Centre’s research interests encompass a range of broad themes, including the dynamics of the earth’s interior, earthquake source physics, seismic imaging, paleoclimate reconstruction, surface processes and mass transport, petrology, groundwater pollution, and anthropogenic impacts on the environment. Our research is grounded in interdisciplinary approaches that bridge the gap between basic and applied earth sciences.

Academics

  • Ph.D.1 Our program provides students with the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research on a variety of topics related to the Earth, including geology, geophysics, geochemistry, and environmental science. We encourage students from diverse academic backgrounds to apply to our program, including those with degrees in physics, engineering, geology, mathematics and chemistry. Outstanding candidates with a bachelor’s degree in any relevant field are considered for direct admission into this program.

  • M.Tech. (Earth and Climate Sciences)2 This innovative program has been designed in collaboration with the Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (CAOS), aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the interconnected Earth-Atmosphere-Ocean-Climate system. Through this program, students will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to address some of the most pressing environmental challenges facing our planet.

We are pleased to announce a new M.Tech. program in Earth and Climate Sciences starting in August 2023.

We look forward to welcoming the brightest minds to these programs and providing them with the tools they need to make a meaningful impact in the field of Earth Sciences. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview following an initial screening process based on their scores in the above exams. This interview will provide candidates with an opportunity to discuss their academic and research background.
